A Tip for Headphone Cord Management

Apple makes their headphone cords nice and long allowing you to put your iPod just about anywhere you want. Which is great if you want to slip it in your pocket. The iStik allows you to now put your iPod on your shirt or your hat, which is great for accessibility, but the once useful long cord now becomes a pesky annoyance.

We have discovered a great way to remedy this issue. Just wrap the cord around the case/iPod itself and then stick it on the iStik fastener. As shown in the picture, this will also work when your iPod is not in use and you want to keep your cords from going rogue.

Apple today introduced the fourth-generation iPod nano. Touted by Apple as the thinnest iPod ever made, the new nano sports a curved aluminum design with curved glass, and looks very similar to previous reports. In addition to the new form factor, the new iPod nano features an accelerometer that allows the user to shake the device to enter shuffle mode. A new user interface also appears on the device, offering Genius playlist creation right from the nano, a Cover Flow mode that appears when the device is in landscape orientation, a built-in voice recording app, album art that appears at the bottom as the user scrolls through the traditional interface, and battery life of 24 hours for music and 4 hours for video. The new iPod nano will be available in nine colors — silver, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, black and pink, and will be priced at $149 for the 8GB model and $199 for the new 16GB model.

Kendall Survives Her 1st 1/2 Marathon!

First iStik "Knock-off" for the Shuffle

Looks like there is a simple iStik solution for the Shuffle after all. The Shuffle's built-in clip gives plenty of versatility in where you are able to wear it, so we didn't see a need to make a case with a magnetic fastening system. Apparently though, that is not stopping some from making their own. This is an iStik fastener chopped down to the size of the Shuffle with one side directly glued to the Shuffle and the other piece free to go under your clothing. Not recommended, but quite ingenious! For venerable floppies, this statement holds true. We placed a 99-cent magnet on a 3.5-inch floppy for a few seconds. The magnet stuck to the disk and ruined its data.

Fortunately, most modern storage devices, such as SD and CompactFlash memory cards, are immune to magnetic fields. "There's nothing magnetic in flash memory, so [a magnet] won't do anything," says Bill Frank, executive director of the CompactFlash Association. "A magnet powerful enough to disturb the electrons in flash would be powerful enough to suck the iron out of your blood cells," says Frank.

The same goes for hard drives. The only magnets powerful enough to scrub data from a drive platter are laboratory degaussers or those used by government agencies to wipe bits off media. "In the real world, people are not losing data from magnets," says Bill Rudock, a tech-support engineer with hard-drive maker Seagate. "In every disk," notes Rudock, "there's one heck of a magnet that swings the head."

Want to erase data from a hard drive you plan to toss? Don't bother with a magnet. Overwrite the data that is stored on the media instead. For flash, fill up the drive with anything, like pictures of your beloved dachshund. Unlike with magnetic media, from which experts can usually recover at least some overwritten data, once new data is written to flash media, the old data is gone forever. To overwrite the contents of a hard drive, try Eraser from Heidi Computers.

WOW! What a great event! We met so many great people and had such a great time! Here are some of the pictures from the event. I can't imagine a better place to launch our product.
